Night Shifts

Night Shifts explores experimental design through the visual and emotional language of night. I’m interested in how design can expand beyond direct communication, becoming more expressive, process-based, and open-ended. Night serves as a framework for this exploration, shaping my design process and output.

Personally, night is a time of focus, solitude, and freedom. It has few rules, and allows for more intuitive making. Visually, night transforms our world. Light becomes fragmented and details are obscured, creating unsettling conditions. These qualities influence my approach to design, experimenting through abstraction, texture, and layering.

The outcome exists as a physical zine, alongside a series of posters and projected animations that interact with one another, combining digital and analog processes. Together, these elements form an immersive visual experience that reflect the atmosphere of night and the experimental process used to create it. This project invites viewers to consider design as a space for exploration, intuition, and discovery.
