for the love of orange
Orange is a color that demands to be looked at. Using the digital collection from the museums in The Smithsonian Institution, I have curated a collection of works that feature shades of orange. This project identifies the primary orange hexidecimal (hex) number from the artwork and sorts the artworks into five categories based on a second identification of visual perception of the shade of orange: brown orange, bright orange, yellow orange, red orange and true orange (orange orange).
For the Love of Orange is a curatorial project celebrating the the color orange and its applications in art and design. The project includes a public exhibition of explanatory posters at the Sojourner Truth Library, April 20–May 8, 2026, and a supplemental digital catalogue.
