Faces of the Divine

Faces of the Divine is an interactive, card-based system that explores Ancient Greek deities through layers of identity, classification, and perception. Drawing from the historical use of epithets, which are alternative titles that highlight different aspects of a god, this project investigates how a single figure can embody multiple, sometimes contradictory meanings.

The system includes two types of cards in one box, allowing users to reinterpret each deity in relation to different concepts. Solid cards focus on individual gods and goddesses and their associations. Transparent cards represent broader ideas, such as connections to the earth, sky, love, war, or chaos.

This system encourages users to build their own understanding, emphasizing that ideas about gods are not fixed but shaped by perception and context. A booklet included with the cards guides the user’s actions and helps interpret the results.
