Backyard Chickens

“Backyard Chickens” is an exploration into backyard chicken farming and its benefits, both to mental and physical health! Chickens make amazing companions and pets, not to mention how much better home-grown eggs taste than store-bought ones. My thesis aims to bring viewers into the lovely and silly world of chicken-keeping. You might not expect it but caring for a flock can be less work than a dog or cat, yet it is just as rewarding.

The culmination of this research project is a watercolor illustrated children’s book entitled “Hennifer: The Backyard Chicken”. The story follows Hennifer and her fellow flock-mates over their first few months of life. It aims to inspire children to care about chickens and encourages families to consider the benefits of owning hens.
